Research and Workforce Development Collaboration Examples

WestCaRD has developed strategic relationships with academic institutions and research organizations to develop mutually beneficial objectives and combine resources to conduct R&D projects that create new technologies and attract and train a specialized workforce, primarily in the testing and propulsion sectors:

  • Red River College in Winnipeg has provided training needs assessment and developed curricula for specialized training of test operators and is participating in applied R & D projects
  • The University of Manitoba, with financial contributions from the Province of Manitoba, WestCaRD, EnviroTREC, GE Canada and StandardAero, has established an Aero-Engine Test Engineer-in-Residence (EiR) program. WestCaRD is a member of the Aero-engine Test Engineer Liaison Group that provides oversight of this EiR program. The EiR has added valuable content to the Engineering curriculum pertaining to engine testing. The University of Manitoba researchers are also participating in multiple R&D projects.
  • The Composites Innovation Centre in Winnipeg has provided advice and consultation regarding composite materials R & D and project management;
  • The National Research Council has provided technical expertise and research and development project consultation
  • The Manitoba Industrial Technology Centre (ITC) has provided technical expertise for project development & management
  • The Manitoba Aerospace Association, coordinates aerospace industry activities and R&D programs in Manitoba such as the development of the Manitoba Technology Roadmap
